Sailing Matters!
I'm Tony Latham, this years Sailing Secretary. I will from time to time include some notes in the new format Newsletter. The aim will be to inform of any developments or changes to the sailing programme, or associated business.
We are now approaching the sailing season proper, after a period where quite a lot has been going on behind the scenes. There is still a bit to be done to catch up with everything, but I'll try to summarise here.
The full programme has been put together, and as I write details up to the end of April are available on the website. The remainder will be added soon.
Please note that duties have been allocated for most of those required in the programme, with them shared around as fairly as possible. But please note that it is possible that we may need to distribute a few more around as details are finalised. So please be prepared for a possible additional duty, as we have minimised the load as much as possible so far.
One set of events that have yet to be finalised are the Friday evening social sailing and skill development sessions. Hopefully there will be instructors/experienced sailors who would want to share that experience, which will also cover any duty requirement. Volunteers are required for this series, otherwise some added duties will have to follow.
In August there will again be a personal handicap series, alongside a new venture the Pro/Am series.
In short double handed races, with “novices” paired with experienced “old lags”, to share the enjoyment of racing. More details will follow. Again experienced club members are encouraged to step forward for this.
Please also note that there are 2 types of racing staged at Frampton. The normal racing, for which duties are issued and there is an OOD (Oficer Of the Day) plus team. Please note that unless other
arrangements are specifically made these duties are for the day, not an afternoon or part day. However recognising that the past arrangements for Galley/Bar duties have entailed that person standing around for long period, this year that duty refers to Bar on Wednesdays, and Galley only on Sundays. (Sunday bar will be at the discretion of the OOD and on a self help basis – no NOT FREE).
The second class of race is the Informal/Co operative type race, as on Wednesday afternoons, also known as the “Old Gits”. These are run by those involved, and there is not normally an allocated crew. These should appear in Italics in the programme). It is the responsibility of those taking part to decide whether they can cope with the conditions, and in the event of an incident it is required that all other competitors assist as appropriate. To this end there should be a safety boat launched, and warmed up, left tied to the jetty for available for immediate use if necessary.
I'm sure there must be more more, but I'll spare you from overload, so can I please just remind you to check out when your duties are, and make note, or arrange a duty swop as soon as possible. As we do lean rather heavily on our experienced longstanding members to run things such as sail training, and development session, Please also double check again once all the dates have been entered, in case we do have to share any more around.
Fair winds
